Feng Shui and Urban Planning. Episode 2 – Giving Meaning

Feng Shui is the art of adapting the space around you in order to improve your daily life. By taking action on your close environment, the expert helps solve issues and problems related to your living conditions. One of the techniques used in this respect is the thoughtful handling of shapes.

The architects of the past knew how to use shapes to influence the occupants of what they built. This entrance hall, for example, calls to mind a dancing, ascending twirl. The curves show us the way to the upper floor. This architectural technique gives us a sense of lightness and balance.

In contrast, a building which displays only one shape immediately points to a lack of balance. Movement conveys a sense of life, whereas excess is synonymous with restraint and blockage. Life gets bogged down, so to speak, as if a glut of earth and mud impeded its flow.

Nature, which Man belongs to, displays a wide variety of shapes and colours seemingly orchestrated by a profound and unrelenting intelligence. Success can be achieved by understanding and following this intelligence. In order to take advantage of a given space and build meaningful constructions, one has to draw inspiration from and act in accordance with nature.

The achievement of a perfect balance will ensure a good quality of life. Nature shows us what perfection is, and we have to draw our inspiration from it. All we need to do is interpret properly what simply lies before our eyes.
